Natural Fly Repellant

With the warmer weather, I have noticed a big increase in the amount of flies buzzing around. While they are incredibly annoying, I don’t want to resort to an electric tennis racket and certainly don’t want to be spraying poisonous chemicals around the house or garden. A natural insect repellent is an easy solution.

This requires my lovely aromatherapy diffuser, which I use most days with different oils to suit my mood or situation. The good news is that insects – and especially flies – hate lavender and peppermint in particular. Citronella is another obvious choice but I’m personally not a fan and don’t have any in my box of tricks at the moment so I use lemongrass instead.

How to deter the flies:

  • Fill your diffuser 3/4 full with water.
  • Add 7 drops of lavender, 7 drops of peppermint and 6 drops of lemongrass.
  • Switch on and enjoy the vapours!

Not only will you be banishing the flies but your house will smell so lovely and fresh too.¬†This doesn’t kill the insects but simply deters them from your home.

As with everything I recommend, I strongly advise you to use high quality organic essential oils. Cheaper oils that have been processed using cheap and inefficient methods, results in very little therapeutic benefit and don’t smell nearly as nice (if anyone ever tells you that aromatherapy doesn’t work, tell them to buy some good quality organic oils and try again!).
